Blackpool Council has been selected for the 2024/2025 Design Code Pathfinder programme. The programme, promoted by the central government, supports councils across the country in preparing and adopting design codes.
The Blackpool Design Code will guide how new buildings, streets, and spaces are developed in Blackpool so that they respect and celebrate the local identity, promote wellbeing and active lives, foster a fair and inclusive town, support the local economy, and embed sustainability and climate resilience at the centre of any design.
Blackpool Council has appointed a multidisciplinary team led by Maccreanor Lavington to develop the Design Code in conversation with the local communities and embed local perspectives.
As part of the engagement programme, we are establishing a Residents' Focus Group of up to eight residents. The Residents' Focus Group will act as an advisory group to the Design Team and will meet three times during the programme to discuss specific topics.
If you would like to participate in the Focus Group, you can expect:
Your commitment: You will attend three online workshops, scheduled once a month, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7.30 between January and March 2025. Your time will be compensated at the National Living wage, ensuring that your contribution is valued.
Your impact: As a member of the Residents Focus Group, you will be a critical friend to the Design Team. Your insights and perspectives will help us better understand Blackpool and its residents, shaping the town's future look.
How to apply: If you are interested, please apply following the link below. We encourage participation from people from all backgrounds, especially those less represented in the planning system. No prior experience is required; however, you must be a Blackpool resident. Please express your interest completing the form at the link below by the 1st of January.
